Something else I found interesting was this Atlantic article (and great NYMag follow-up) on elongating words digitally. It’s an interesting contribution to the discussion on how we interpret texts and emails.
Or at least it was interesting to me because I frequently get berated for being short and rude in texts and emails. Which I did not realize was synonymous for what I thought I was being: efficient and clear. There is, unfortunately for me, quite a big difference between:
can you send me this file, please?
and
Heyyyy - thanks so much for helping today! Could you please send that file when you get a chance? :)
I am learning to be affectionate and kind in emails and texts, but I have yet to learn to like it.
