Lisa Khoury, an assistant news editor at The Spectrum, wrote an opinion piece on why she believes tattoos are immoral and low class… except she never actually says why she thinks that. She preaches on the benefits of yoga, shopping, and having guys drool over you. These are things I think many of us can appreciate, but her unnecessary attack on tattoos, which, in case anyone has forgotten, have been a part of civilization since Neolithic times, is ridiculous.
What is more ridiculous though is the blatant shaming of other women that Ms. Khoury is participating in, claiming that those of with ink have no morals or values. Writing a thoughtful piece on the very real prejudices that having tattoos can cause would be an interesting read. Writing a piece insulting a culture and lifestyle you do not understand is prejudiced, uneducated, and hurtful.
I can only hope that the hundreds of comments already written about this piece will prompt Ms. Khoury to think before she publishes next time.
